Apple iOS6: 200 New Features

It will come to no surprise to you that we are iFanatics here at Cybher so we were super excited to hear the new features of the soon to be released iOS6 today at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference today in San Francisco.

iOS6 has over 200 new features but here are a few that we are most excited about:

-You can tweet directly from Siri

I’m laughing already thinking of the possible DYAC issues this could cause! That being said I actually really like Siri’s dictation functionality so integrating Twitter will be pretty sweet.

-Facebook integration with iOS

Facebook integration will be similar to Twitter so you’ll be able to post photos or videos straight to Facebook without using the app. You’ll also be able to post updates via Siri. Since the Facebook app is super glitchy I approve anything that means I don’t have to use it.

-”Do not Disturb” feature

I’ve been craving this feature to stop my phone from showing notifications overnight. Maybe I’ll actually go to bed before 2am if I don’t see who’s tweeting me or challenging me to Scramble!

-Facetime to work over phone networks (not just wifi)

Facetime is the number one way I speak to my family so access outside of wifi will be nice

-Shared Photo streams

I’m wondering if this is to try and challenge Facebook’s purchase of Instagram? Only time will tell!

-VIP contacts (own folders in mail, etc)

Gmail has a similar feature so it will be nice to have that added filter on your iOS mailbox, too.

-Maps now (Yelp integration, turn by turn navigation, live traffic & a 3D “Google Earth” like feature)

I have literally no sense of direction so I often rely on the map app. It will be nice to have added functionality– Maps now is set to rival Google maps so features should be pretty impressive.

No firm date on when iOS6 will be released but the beta developer is out now and it is likely to roll out this fall. Personally I’m still waiting for Siri to have the same features in the UK as she does in the US but no word on when or if that will happen!

It is also worth mentioning that Apple has decided to go big with iCloud and it will be fully integrated across all devices including OS Lion with tabs in Safari. There is a lot of talk that Cloud is now better and bigger than Drive but only time will tell!

For those of you who’s iLove runs deep the new MacBook Pro at .7″ is thinner than your finger and has full retina display. If you’ve got a couple thousand to throw around they are shipping now. You can check out more from WWDC from our very on Claire over at Bad Fiction.
